Image of Domestic Apple Parer by Landers, Frary, and Clark

Domestic

The Domestic by Landers, Frary & Clark of New Britain, Connecticut has two interesting features. First, like the Inverted Reading mentioned in the evolution section, this parer has the turntable gear inverted, so that parings do not clog the gear. Second, as mentioned in the gear section, the push-off is a rack and pinion gear. A projection on the turntable hits a lever, which rotates the modified pinion gear that moves the rack that pushes the pared apple off the fork. An earlier version of this parer was named the Victor. The parer above is marked DOMESTIC LANDERS, FRARY & CLARK PAT. JUNE 10, 1873.
