Elizur Spencer worked as a wheelwright in Sandisfield, Massachusetts between the years 1803 and 1820. Locally, Elizur was known as a master craftsman who made many high quality items needed for everyday use such as spinning wheels and apple parers. Spencer's parer could be mounted to a table in such a way as to accomodate both right and left-handed people. The specimen pictured above is missing a metal sheath around the forks and has a knife that is not original to the parer. However, the pare does have an excellent orignal paper label that reads, "Elizur Spencer. Sandisfield. No. 1518 Mass." Visit our article section to read more about Elizur Spencer.
